How often should I change my kids’ sheets?

Because food, sweat, and dirt accumulate on fabric, bedding should be washed and changed weekly at a minimum, according to Stephanie Riley, ND, of Tahoe City, California. Children who suffer from allergies or asthma may benefit from even more frequent washing of bedding, stuffed animals and anything else they regularly sleep with, Riley adds. Pure and natural trumps commercial detergents, which can contain potentially hazardous chemicals such as phenols and naphthas. Similarly, it’s a good idea for children to change all their clothes every day—even if it means buying several identical pairs of Elmo underpants.
