A recent study found that 5,200 fifth-grade students who ate more fruits and vegetables (and less saturated fat) performed better when asked to read materials and answer written questions. “Parents should feel motivated to improve the eating habits of their children, not only because it will boost long-term health, but also because it will aid learning,” notes Paul J. Veugelers, PhD, a professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and lead researcher on the study.
